Want a support rail that looks more like a banister? Our Wide Handrails offer the continuous support that you need without sacrificing the beauty of your decor!

As people age or experience an illness, balance and mobility problems tend to be a real concern. Installing ADA Compliant Handrails in your home provides something safe to grab onto to steady yourself.

These handrails do not look like grab bars. The handrails are very inconspicuous, sort of like a chair rail running the length of a wall. Use these handrails on the stairs, in the hallway, in the living room or wherever you need something sturdy to hold on to. You'll find that they add value to your home without detracting from your style.

Our Wide Handrail Starter Set includes:

  • One 12' Handrail (Can be cut down to fit your specific needs.)

  • 5 sets of Mounting Brackets and Hardware (Includes wall anchors and screws for 5/8" drywall.)

  • Two Returns (Provides a nice curved finished look on the ends.)

If you have a longer wall or a wall with corners, additional parts can be ordered along with the starter package to customize your needs. (See the "Accessories" tab for more details.)

Installation Rating
Assembly is difficult, special skills may be required.
  • For ADA Compliance, handrails should be installed 34 - 38" from the floor to the top of the gripping surface. For taller people in private residences, you can install them higher as appropriate. For children, install at approximately 28" H.
  • The Handrail length can be cut to suit your needs; you will need a table saw with a metal carbide saw blade.

Wide HandrailHandrail Pieces:
Sold in a 12' lengths. If you need a shorter length, you can cut it down to your specific needs with a table Saw with a metal carbide blade. If you have a straight wall that is longer than 12', you can order additional Handrail lengths and use a Splice Assembly to connect them.

Splice Assembly for Wide HandrailsSplice Assembly:
Required to join two handrails together. (This is not needed if you are only using one length of handrail.)

Mounting Bracket for Wide HandrailsMounting Brackets:
Mounting Brackets include the mounting hardware for installation into 5/8 " thick drywall. (Our Starter Set includes 5 brackets.) A bracket needs to be placed 4" in on either end with a minimum of 32" in between. If you are customizing your application, please keep these minimum spacings in mind when ordering extra brackets.

Return for Wide HandrailsReturns:
The Handrail Starter Set comes with 2 interchangeable Returns which can be used on either the left or right hand side. These returns complete the look of the handrail with a rounded end. You can use a Handrail without them, but we include one in the set as it creates a finished look to your project.

(Please keep in mind that the left and right returns measure 3.25" each and will add additional length to your project so measure appropriately.)

Inside Corner Piece for Wide HandrailsInside Corner Piece with Hardware:
If you are installing a handrail where there is an inside corner within the length of the rail, you will need this piece to connect the two handrail sections together for a seamless look. Adds 2.5" to each connected rail.

Outside Corner Piece for Wide HandrailsOutside Corner Piece with Hardware:
If you are installing a handrail where there is an outside corner within the length of the rail, you will need this piece to connect the two handrail sections together for a seamless look. Adds 1.75" to each connected rail.

Ordering Examples:

Situation 1: You have a wall that is 6 ft long.
Order: One Handrail Starter Set and cut the handrail down to the appropriate length

Situation 2: You have a long hallway with a wall that measures 22" long
Order: One Handrail Starter Set, 1 Splice Assembly, 1 extra Handrail and 5 extra Mounting Brackets. This will give you a 24' handrail. You will need to cut one of the handrails down accordingly.

Situation 3: You want to install a handrail that has an inside corner. The wall measures 6' on each side.
Order: One Handrail Starter Set, 1 Inside Corner Piece, 3 extra Mounting Brackets. You will then need to cut the 12' handrail twice in order to have room for the Return and the Corner.
